The Giovanni Consort conclude their 2019 Season with a celebration of music from the United Kingdom. Conducted by Kate McNamara, the choir will examine repertoire from a variety of composers that demonstrates why British Choral music is still held in such high regard.
The key work for this concert will be Benjamin Britten’s monumental Rejoice in the Lamb, composed in 1943 and based on the poem Jubilate Agnoby Christopher Smart. The poem, written while Smart was in an asylum depicts idiosyncratic praise and worship of God by all created beings and things, each in its own way.
Alongside this work will be music composed by the current masters of British composition, including James Macmillan, Roxanna Panufnik and Judith Bingham. The concert will be performed in the acoustically majestic setting of St Mary’s Church, South Perth.
The Giovanni Consort looks forward to seeing you at this closing concert of our 2019 Concert Series.
