Rejuvenate: New songs for old stories

  • Victoria Hall 179 High Street Fremantle, WA, 6160 Australia (map)

WA’s professional chamber choir, the Giovanni Consort, presents Rejuvenate, a celebration of both the glorious history of choral music, and new inspiration. Held on August 7th and 8th in Fremantle’s historic Victoria Hall and conducted by Kate McNamara, favourites by Byrd, Palestrina, and Purcell are paired with vibrant new imaginings of the same texts by Malcolm Lauridsen, James MacMillan, and Australian composers Joseph Twist and Lydia Gardiner.

Rejuvenate is all about actively engaging with the musical canon we’re familiar with, and the way contemporary composers can deconstruct, reconstruct, and respond to it. Local talent Jake Pitcher will be designing an atmosphere that embodies this idea of new life, with the generous help of our sponsors, Waldecks Garden Centre, who themselves have a proud history of 50 years as a West Australian family owned and run business.

Some street parking is available, otherwise Kings Square Carpark at 22 Henderson Street is a short stroll away.
